Events on public roads - apply for a permit and traffic order

Events on public roads usually take up more space than is customary. You therefore require a permit to organise such events.

Prerequisite

  • The organisation of the event on public roads is compatible with general traffic.

Responsible department

  • the road traffic authority of the place where the event begins: city administration or district office
  • if the event (e.g. a cycle race) also leads to another federal state:
    the regional council in whose district the event begins
  • if the event leads from another federal state to Baden-Württemberg:
    the regional council whose district is entered first

Procedure

Apply for the permit and the traffic law order from the competent authority. You can do this in person, in writing or digitally.

The local road traffic authority will draw up the authorisation requirementsssitions together with

  • the person making the application,
  • the other authorities affected by the planned special use and the police
  • the police.

The competent authority will send you, as the applicant, the approved application in the form of a traffic order, possibly with conditions and requirements, as well as the permit in the form of a notice.

Deadlines

Submit the application in good time, as the approval process can take up to 2 months for measures that require extensive coordination.
