Food monitoring - Communicate self-monitoring results on dioxins and PCBs
Food business operators are obliged to report test results from their own controls on dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
The aim is to detect possible problems earlier.
Prerequisite
You are a food business operator and have self-control results on dioxins and PCBs.
Responsible department
for food businesses: the competent lower food supervisory authority
The lower food supervisory authority is,
- if the registered office of your food business is in a city district: the city administration
- if the registered office of your food business is in a rural district: the Landratsamt (district administration office)
Procedure
You must electronically transmit the examination results you have to the competent body. The competent body will provide you with standardised electronic templates (digital files) for this purpose.
Written transmission is only permissible if the competent body has allowed this at your request.
You must provide the following data, among others:
- Name of the company
- Sample number
- analysed product
- Sampling location
- analysed substance
The electronic templates (digital files) to be used according to this Ordinance as well as instructions for filling in the Excel tables can be downloaded.
The respective competent body anonymises the data and transmits them to the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL). The BVL records these results in a common data pool, evaluates them and publishes them quarterly on its website.
Deadlines
Your notification must be made within 14 days after the test result has been finally determined.
Attention: If the maximum level set by law for the respective food has been exceeded, the notification must be made immediately. If you suspect that your food is unsafe, you must inform the competent authorities immediately of any action taken.

A violation of the obligation to notify the results of the examination (failure to notify, incorrect, incomplete or untimely notification) constitutes an administrative offence.
The competent authority may impose a fine of up to EUR 20.000
