Child day care centre - Register child for admission

In many towns and municipalities, you will receive a list of existing day care centres. You can obtain this list free of charge from the youth welfare office or the municipal/city administration.

It is often also available on the local authority's website.

Day care centres are

  • Crèches,
  • Kindergartens and
  • Day care centres with mixed-age groups.

A place in a day care centre should not be too far away from your home or workplace.

Procedure

Contact the management of the desired centre.

Ask about opening hours, meal times and educational specialisms.

Clarify the exact enrolment procedure and the enrolment deadlines on site. Enquire whether you can register your child for more than one centre.

You will receive a form for the medical examination from the centre you choose or its provider.

Have it completed by the examining doctor.
The medical certificate should confirm that you have no objections to attending the centre.

Before you are admitted to a centre, the provider will conclude a care contract with you. It contains legal agreements, for example on the

  • daily childcare hours,
  • Childcare costs and
  • Cancellation periods.

Note: For children with disabilities, it is advisable to contact the centre and its provider before admission in order to clarify any additional support that may be required.

Required documents

  • Certificate of medical examination and medical vaccination counselling
  • Proof of measles protection: vaccination card or medical confirmation

Costs

The parental contributions or fees for childcare vary. They are set by the provider of the centre and can depend on

  • the income of the parents,
  • the number of children in a family and
  • the duration of childcare.

Note: The Baden-Württemberg Association of Municipalities and the Baden-Württemberg Association of Towns and Cities as well as the churches make joint recommendations on the structure of parental contributions. The scale of fees takes into account the number of children in a family.
